Hardware FAQs
Frequently asked questions about the Greyparrot monitoring unit.
Does the monitoring unit analyse video or pictures?
Our hardware takes several pictures every second to ensure that every object in your waste stream is recorded. Our AI analyses those pictures in near-real time, and the live image feed is visible on the dashboard.
Are you planning to add different sensors, like NIR?
Yes! We plan to build further sensors into our hardware to increase its vision spectrum, tackle new use cases and categorise more waste classes. We’re currently working on adding NIR sensors to our monitoring unit, and aim to release the new hardware in Q1 2023.
What is the maximum speed you can work with?
Our system works with conveyor belts running at speeds up to 3 m/s for accurate waste composition analysis. For robotic applications, we can work at speeds of up to 1 m/s. These numbers will increase as we keep upgrading our hardware and software.
How much maintenance does hardware require?
Unlike complex optical or robotic sorters, our hardware is easy to maintain. A few times a year, you’ll need to clean the camera’s protective glass and switch the unit on and off. That’s it.Major maintenance (like replacing components) shouldn’t need to happen for 3-5 years. If you’re leasing the hardware from us, that maintenance will be covered under your contract.
